About Homeschool Law Map
A free, plain-English guide to what the written rules ask of homeschooling families in every U.S. state, DC and territory, with a transparent ranking so you can compare.

How the information is compiled
Summaries are paraphrased from official state and territory sources where we could read them, cross-checked against secondary summaries (notably HSLDA's state guides, which come from an advocacy organization and are treated as one input, not the final word). Each page lists its sources, a last-verified date and a data-confidence badge. “High” confidence means we read the official source for the scored pathway and it matched; “Medium” means the official source was only partly read or some scored items still rest on secondary summaries. Items we have not yet confirmed are marked “Needs verification”. See the methodology.
Known limits (draft v0.1)
- Territory data (American Samoa, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands) is the thinnest. American Samoa and Puerto Rico in particular still have open items that need an official answer.
- Funding programs, public-school access and graduation rules are not scored.
- Local district practice is not scored.
